ALBUM REVIEW: Brett Eldredge “Brett Eldredge”

There is something about Brett Eldredge’s music that is contagious. After one listen through my cheeks hurt from smiling, and much of that happiness comes from knowing that this body of work is not only a reflection of Brett as an artist, but also as a person.

It is evident that he poured his entire heart and soul into the making of this record. Every single word was written with purpose and from the start to the finish, we are invested.

“Love Someone” is a feel good love song that kicks off this recently released self-titled album. With a catchy chorus, you will quickly feel your heart warming and your mood lifting.

It’s a bird! It’s a plane! It’s…Brett Eldredge!

“Oh that girl that girl needs a superhero,

Walk up to her pull her in real close,

Her broken heart ain’t a thing no more,

That girl needs a superhero”

“Superhero” is a new twist on the well-known story line of a girl who deserves better, and someone to care for her the right way.  Brett Eldredge is there to save the day. Not all heroes wear capes.

“The Long Way” is about learning where the one you love came from, and every special moment and memory that made her who she is today, while “The Reason” is a soulful cry on how hard it is to stay away. Brett Eldredge’s voice shines in a different range, which compliments the emotion of the piece with perfection.

His current single “Somethin’ I’m Good At” is an instant, foot tapping, dance like no one is watching, song that brings out the most genuine smile in all of us.

Brett Eldredge does a lot of reflecting with this record, from the hopefulness in “Haven’t Met You Yet”, to the vulnerable reminiscing in “No Stopping You”.

“There’s no stopping you, Cuz your mind’s set to,

Where your heart says go, Go on, go girl go,

Hope you find me in a stranger’s smile, hope you hear me in the lonely mile,

Gotta do what you were born to do, Cuz there’s no stopping you”

As much as he longs for her to return, he knows what she is meant to do, and just hopes she sees him along the way.

“In the end, always there for each other, Oh, Brother.” A beautifully written song for a cherished family member.

“Heartbreaker” is packed with the play on words that only Brett Eldredge can execute, with lines such has “You’re a beautiful time waster, you’re a shake my world earth-quaker”, and he brings his voice to new limits throughout.

A positive message comes out of “Crystal Clear” as we are instantly transported to a place without a care in the world, and where we can all just love each other.

“Cycle” is just that. A vicious game played by so many. When one person knows the other all too well, and one thing always leads to another and “Castaway” is probably one Brett Eldredge’s most vulnerable songs. I can tell that purely by the way he performs it. He puts it all out there, and leaves nothing behind.

That is to be said about all 12 tracks. This album is packed with a healthy mix of feel good, heartache, and hope. Every song leaves an imprint and is easily relatable, which makes this record a strong addition to Brett Eldredge’s already incredible catalog of music. No matter what he is singing about, the music is always authentic. I firmly believe that Brett Eldredge is here to make the world a happier place, one song at a time.
