ALBUM REVIEW: Haley & Michaels “Haley & Michaels”

Haley & Michaels career has been rapidly rising since the release of their current single “Just Another Love Song“. With numerous weeks on GAC’s Top 20 Countdown, and support across Sirius XM’s The Highway, this duo is well on their way, and with their fans eager for more, they just released their Debut Self Titled EP.

The single, which has made a huge impact and launched their already successful career, also serves as the lead track into an album of five well-constructed songs both musically and lyrically.

The melody is passionate in “One More Night to Break“, and the intensity builds up to the first chorus as they beg to put their break up off for just one more night.

“So why don’t we just wait,
One night, to break down, say goodbye,
Cry all the tears were gonna cry,
Let’s hold on just a little too tight,
And take, one more night”

A guitar solo keeps the feeling alive as they make one last effort to stop time. The musical arrangement behind these words is brilliant.

Haley & Michaels take on “500 Miles” by The Proclaimers and arrange it into their own masterpiece. Their cover is a little less choppy and a lot more romantic. They give the tune an airy and fresh feel with their overlapping lines and harmonies.

This duo is great at telling a love story, such as in “We’ll Always Have Mexico“, where two old flames reminisce about memories that will last a lifetime, even if their love cannot.

“La da da da, La da da da
Remember, that night on the beach, you laid next to me
La da da da, La da da da, counting stars and feeling so free”

A delicate piano melody supports Shannon Haley and Ryan Michaels as their vocal ability shines. Haley’s voice reaches new limits at the final chorus as she explodes with heartache, while Michaels displays a soft yet powerful role on the verses.

An upbeat intro builds up to the final track off the EP, “Light It“. The lyrics take you straight to the point and are paired with an edgier sound than heard on the rest of the album. The confidence and sharpness behind their voices proves they are ready to take on the world with their music.

“Life is a fast lane, we’re gonna ride it. Love is a fire, we’re gonna light it.”

Haley & Michaels’ music is bursting with personality and originality. They are true lyricists and story tellers, and their music reflects all the elements you wish to hear on a country record. This EP will be sure to keep their career moving onward and upward.
