ALBUM REVIEW: The Congress “The Game”

The Congress and their newly released record, The Game, is your ticket to a complete and satisfying musical experience. With commanding vocals, expert arrangements, and vibrant instrumentals, this record will have you captivated from start to finish.

After a harmony that hooks us instantly in “Home Again”, come lyrics that will steal your heart,

“We could be home again, and be our own medicine, we’d live on holiday, and we could always stay, so I wanna know, do I have your heart, I wanna know, when do we start.”

Already, “New Amsterdam” is shaking things up with its electronic and funk sound, and proving that for the rest of this record, it will be impossible to predict what will come next.

The Game continues on with the soulful, “When I Got The Time”, and the rock and roll inspired “Ain’t It Easy”. The longest track and a musical masterpiece, “Poison and Antidote” goes deeper with it’s daunting vocals, and lengthy instrumentals.

The tempo lifts again with the lively and upbeat title track “The Game”, the energy remains high throughout “This Ain’t Livin’”, and you will be on your feet with the free spirited lyrics and nostalgic vibe that comes with, “September”.

“Maybe this September I’ll call,

Maybe this September she’ll call,

Maybe it’ll be the time this fall,

I’m gonna find a piece of mind,

In between the water and the wine”

Unfortunately, all good things must come to an end, and the fitting final track “Farewell” brings this well-rounded record to a close. As listeners, we did not want it to end either.

The Congress is made up of a number of extremely talented musicians who are flawless at transplanting themselves into any genre, or story they are telling. Their creativity throughout this record emphasizes not only their versatility as artists, but also the extensive knowledge they have of their craft. Saying there is “a little bit of everything on this record” is an understatement, and I can only imagine what this group is capable of doing live.

The Congress proved with The Game, that music has no limits.
