Heartfelt love songs are a staple for country music star Chris Young. These sweet ballads have opened him up to become one of country music’s hottest bachelors. It may have been somewhat unexpected how relatable these songs have become for couples. With the success of “Who I Am With You” many concerts have been the platform for a monumental life decision….a wedding proposal. Loving this angle I sat down with 2 couples to find out the juicy details.
Priscilla and Tom’s Story:
When A.M. was released last year, Tom was really excited. He has always been a Chris Young fan and appreciates how true he has stayed to traditional country. He wanted to listen to the CD all the way through and not just the song that was getting radio play. One song caught his attention. From the very first moment he heard “Who I Am With You” it made him think of his sweet girlfriend Priscilla. He said the very first listen he said to himself “this is going to be our song” so it was fitting it played an integral part when the time had come to propose. He gathered 15 of their friends to attend the concert. They had lawn seats and Priscilla said he was acting nervous most of the night. When “Who I Am With You” started playing he asked her to dance. “He’s not much of a dancer” says Priscilla so it struck me as odd but I went along with it. As they danced their friends formed a circle around them. At one point in the song, Tom backed up, dropped to one knee and asked for her hand in marriage. Priscilla said she was absolutely speechless and the rest of the night is a complete blur. The song will remain important to the couple as they are planning to make it their first dance song in their 2016 wedding.
Sheena and Kyle’s Story:
It was hands down the best day ever (until the wedding of course)! We were heading to the Chris Young concert with our friends Jason and Autumn up at the Island Resort & Casino. It was a great day, Sheena, who never really gambles won $70 and was so excited. Sadly, Kyle lost, quite a bit! Shortly after we had dinner where after dinner Sheena was surprised with Meet & Greet passes. After the Meet & Greet (awesome time by the way!), Sheena kept saying to everyone, “seriously, this is the best day ever” and “this is such a great day.” Chris’ concert was awesome…we were having a great time and he sounded great! A couple of songs in (6 to be exact, as Kyle seemed to count every minute), Chris started talking about how his label wanted him to have a love song for the new record, he said he fell in love with the song and it was perfect. That song, “Who I Am With You,” was what he played next. As the beginning of the song started, Kyle grabbed her hand to bring her down by the stage where he proceeded to get down on one knee. After Sheena said yes and we kissed, Chris Young stopped the song and walked away from the mic to say congrats to us and give us a handshake and a hug. As we were about to go back to our seat he said in the mic, “where you guys going? Stay and dance to your song.” Chris sang the rest of the song directly to us while we danced our “first dance” as a newly engaged couple!
When the song ended Chris Young came up to us again and congratulated us. As we turned around to go sit down, the whole entire crowd (about 1300 people) gave us a standing ovation. People were crying and high fiving us the whole way back! That night, as we were celebrating, random people came up to us saying “you’re that girl” or “you’re the guy” and told us how amazing they thought the proposal was! Of course we would have to agree!!!!
