Great-Niece of Johnny Cash Found Stabbed To Death And Stuffed In A Box

Sad news coming out of Putnam County, Tennessee today, the great-niece of Johnny Cash has been found stabbed to death and stuffed into a box in a house, on Thursday.

Courtney Cash was found on Wednesday morning in a chest inside the front door of a home near Cookeville, Tennessee, about 70 miles east of Nashville.

Putnam County Sheriff David Andrews said that, William Austin Johnson, Cash’s boyfriend, was also being treated for stab wounds at Vanderbilt University Medical Center in Nashville.

According to the Sheriff, the couple had gone out with a friend before an altercation took place in the house where Johnson and Cash lived with their young child.  Johnson fled and took the child with him before driving to the hospital.

The suspect, Wayne Gary Masciarella, has been charged with first-degree murder.   He is being held without bond, and scheduled to appear in court on April 21. A motive was not released, but Sheriff Andrews indicated that the stabbings were likely connected to drugs.
