Keith Urban Saw ‘5 Seconds of Summer’ Pop Sensation Build in Australia

Keith Urban is not surprised the Australian pop group ‘5 Seconds of Summer’ were going to be a huge sensation in the USA. He saw the frenzy about a year ago build in Australia, after they returned from the One Direction 2013 US Tour, as their opening act.
The four boys: Luke, Ashton, Calum and Michael have a No. 1 album with their self-titled full-length debut album. The album sold 259,000 copies during the release week which makes it the third-largest debut of 2014 on the Billboard 200.

Keith tells Albright & O’Malley & Brenner that he was not sure the first time he heard them.

“I caught part of their song one early morning and I was like ‘this is not good’,” Keith explained to me on his recent ‘Raise Em Up’ tour stop upon hearing their smash single ‘She Looks So Perfect’. “But later I heard the entire song and I was impressed with the sound and different variations of music, they are really talented at a young age”

‘5 Seconds of Summer’ kicked off the US stadium tour with ‘One Direction,’ as the opening act on (8/5). Earlier this week, they play LP Field in Nashville.

Keith is taping auditions with fellow American Idol judges Jennifer Lopez and Harry Connick, Jr. while on his tour promoting his latest single ‘Somewhere In My Car.’

American Idol XIV will premiere on the Fox television network in January 2015.
