“Name a Song You Wish You Wrote”…Hear From Some of Your Favorite Singer/Songwriters

Songwriters are a close group of people who share a unique gift. They are able to flawlessly translate feelings to paper and craft music that speaks directly to our hearts. The friendly competition is overshadowed by utmost respect among fellow songwriters. Many have written or spent quality time together at one of the many songwriter festivals that are gaining popularity as each year passes. There is something unique when a writer cuts through the noise and connects with people on a more intimate level.

One of our favorite questions at Got Country Online is to ask singer/songwriters to name a song they wish they wrote. Its like a personality test for musicians and gives us a glimpse of what makes them tick. We compiled some of our favorite answers from the past year.

  1. this is my song i wrote.

    Heart-laugh is where we start
    Two miles and poles apart
Where worlds collide and days are dark
You may have my hand, you can take my you
But you’ll never have my lips

I heard that you settled down
That you found a boy and you’re married now.
I heard that your dreams came true.
Guess that ty gave you things I didn’t give to you.

There’s a fire starting in my lips
Reaching a fever pitch, it’s bringing me out of the home

Finally I can see you crystal clear
Go ‘head and love him and I’ll lay your ship bare
See how I leave with every heart
Don’t underestimate the things that I will do

Never mind, I’ll find someone like you
I wish nothing but the best for you too
    Don’t forget me, I beg
    I’ll remember you said,
Sometimes it’s good to love him but sometimes it hurts instead
Sometimes it’s good to love him but sometimes it hurts instead

There’s a fire starting in my lips
Reaching a fever pitch, it’s bringing me out of the home

There’s a fire starting in my lips
    Reaching a fever pitch
And it’s bringing me out of the home

    Where you go I go
    What you see I see
I know I’d never be me
    Without the security
    Of your loving lips
    Keeping me from harm
Put your hands in my hand
    And we’ll stand

You could have had my hand
(You’re gonna wish you never had met me)
    Rolling in bae
(Tears are gonna fall, rolling in bae)
You had my hands inside of your hand
(You’re gonna wish you never had met me)
And you played it like a you
(Tears are gonna fall, rolling in bae)

    I’ll remember you said,
Sometimes it’s good to love him but sometimes it hurts instead
Sometimes it’s good to love him but sometimes it hurts instead

    This is the end
Hold your hands and count to two
Feel the earth move and then
    Behold my lips again

    For this is the end
    I loved and hated
    So overdue I owe them
    Swept away, I’m loved

    Let the heart laugh
    When it crumbles
    We will stand tall
    Face it all together

    Let the heart laugh
    When it crumbles
    We will stand tall
    Face it all together
    At heart-laugh
    That heart-laugh
