SINGLE REVIEW: Kaitlyn Baker “Burn”

Kaitlyn Bakers’ voice is convincing and mature as the 19 year old tackles cheating in her debut single, “Burn”. The song inspired by her Grandmother’s personal experience, and one memorable line spoken from a preacher, is not your typical tune about wrong doing. Instead of revenge and anger, we are drawn to the strength and confidence of a woman.

The intro has a weightless sound to it, creating the sense of starting new. As her voice enters, it is empowering. The woman in the story is ready to leave any memories of her cheating man behind, with no plans of looking back.

“With a half jug of kerosene,

She poured it all over everything,

She lit a match, and walked back inside.”

As we become involved, we do not feel remorse, rather, a sense of triumph.

“So don’t try to put it out,

She’s burning old memories down,

And through the smoke said never again.”

She’s gonna watch it burn,

The truth will stand when the world’s on fire, burn.”

Kaitlyn Baker has the writing ability and a booming voice to tastefully bring her stories to life. With an album on the way, I am anxious to hear what comes next from this emerging artist.
