After Mom & I had bought our tickets to see Jason Aldean’s Night Train Tour at UGA, it was announced that the Night Train would be rolling into Charleston, SC a month later sans Luke Bryan. Well then! I guess I made the right concert decision. However, I still tried to win tickets every day through WEZL though to no avail I did not win. I’m pretty sure someone stole my lucky horseshoe. My money’s on JJ. I think someone is still sour they didn’t win the championship. Moving along, a strange turn of events led me to stop by Crews Chevrolet on my way home (when I was originally supposed to be going to the beach) to take one more shot at winning a pair of Jason Aldean tickets for Friday night. Lemme just make note, one of the salesmen tried to get me to trade in my car for a brand new Chevy with a lift kit but I told him the only way that was happening was if he found me a sugar daddy. He laughed. These people think I’m joking… So while I’m talking with Bill from The Wolf about playing new artists and bringing them in the show, I hear my name. Well lookie there! Guess who just won the tickets! No I’m not lying. It seriously happened. Totally not rigged! Sorry about that horseshoe Jimmie! You would think winning tickets would be the hard part but nope, not for me. I always struggle to find a buddy to tag along on all my winnings adventures. Down the list I went an stopped on my former neighbor Jen, I knew she could use a night out too. So we got excited, made plans, picked outfits, and headed to the show. Jen had friends tailgating so we hung out with them for a little while until I needed to stop by The Wolf tent. We had a good time catching up with Jessica Chandler who we knew before she became all wolffamous. I even ran into an old neighbor/bayberry runners friend twice. Actually I ran into a lot of friends, which some I was so glad to see. Maybe I need to stay in town for local shows more often instead of running off to Georgia concerts.
One reason I was excited to go to the concert again was because I missed half of Thomas Rhett’s set while standing in the merchandise line at UGA. I knew what the entrance to his show sounded like but didn’t know what it looked like so I was shocked to see him coming out of the audience with his first song. Then he had us singing along to Front Porch Junkies. I felt bad for the guy. I knew every single word so I tried to shout as loud as I could from the back of the venue but there just wasn’t enough of a crowd to fill the stadium with his lyrics. I think I was the only one who knew the words to his brand new single “It Goes Like This”. Please go download it now HERE. It’s really good. Would I steer you wrong? But everyone seemed to come alive when he performed his first hit “Something To Do With My Hands”. There were a few others of his that I was sad not to hear. I can’t wait until he’s doing bigger shows where he isn’t limited to 30 minute sets. I’m still sad I missed him at the Georgia Theater after the UGA concert. Maybe I can see what we can do about getting him back in Charleston soon.
Again Jake Owen came out to Anywhere With You. When he came down off the bridge for his second song it was then that I noticed Mr. Barefoot Jake was not barefoot. What the hell? That’s your signature. I must get down to the bottom of that. He went through the same motions of his set, besides a few stories he collected along the tour. Then he decided he wanted to change it up a little because he himself doesn’t like having to play the same show every night. Therefore his band entered into Jump where he proceeded to do some crazy jump move which split his pants. Let’s think about this for a second. Jake, like most country stars, tends to wear some pretty tight jeans. Those jeans probably don’t allow much room for underwear. So yes, I got to see Jake’s ass and people closer to the stage probably got to see a whole lot more. He disappeared during the instrumental break only to reappear with his shirt duct taped around his crotch and finished his show out with 8 Second Ride. With the exception of one Kenny Chesney tour, I always believe artists get better and better with each time I see them. Jake’s set had already exceeded my expectations but this just pushed it over the top. It should be the talk of the town for awhile. The last interesting thing we’ve seen is when Brad Paisley tripped on a camera cord and fell down the ramp onto his guitar, leading him to spend some time in the Medical University of South Carolina Emergency Room.
Before Jason Aldean was to come on, he had Deejay Silver on the road with him to pump up the crowd. Silver is really awesome. I’d love to see him in more than just a country concert venue. I expected the same countdown I had seen at the UGA show but they launched straight into the concert, still starting with Crazy Town. I loved seeing the crowd getting into “bang, bang, bang!” I definitely think we were better than UGA’s crowd. It’s all a haze of what songs he played when. I really wish I could get my hands on a set list. I do remember him cracking on Jake, not knowing how he was expected to top that show. I knew to look for Kelly Clarkson on the big screen during Don’t You Wanna Stay but I hadn’t realized they did a hologram of her too. My view of it must have been blocked at UGA. People seriously thought it was her though! Holograms are just too cool. No Ludacris during Dirt Road Anthem though. And it was weird seeing him sing The Only Way I Know without Luke Bryan and Eric Church. Thank goodness I had the privilege of seeing Luke perform it with him at UGA. Can we talk encores real quick? Unless you’re at a Craig Morgan concert (he hates encores), you’re going to see a damn encore. Why do you leave at the fake ending? Just think of all the songs he hasn’t played yet real quick. Maybe it’s because I’m a superfan or maybe it’s because I just saw the same show last month but he still hasn’t played My Kinda Party or Hicktown. In all honestly I knew MKP still had to be played but I had forgotten Hicktown.
I am such a lucky girl to have won tickets through 96.9 The Wolf. I’m glad I just happened to be in the right place at the right time all afternoon. Thank you to Ryan, Bill, and The Wolf, Jessica for her great advice and picture idea, and also to Jen for going with me. I had a blast! Tomorrow morning I’ll be suffering from a headache and sore throat or no voice.
