EXCLUSIVE “Chris Bandi Backyard Sessions” Video Premiere & EP Review

Chris Bandi released his much anticipated debut EP today! (5.29.20) The self titled project gives fans seven tracks. Six of them are brand new releases; the seventh is his hit single “Man Enough Now.”

The EP is jam packed with incredible songwriting. I’m a big fan of titles being a play on words & the lyrics aren’t what you expect. “Dirt On Me, written by Matt Jenkins, Michael Hardy, and Smith Anhquist, is one that does just that. I love how it uses the same phrase in totally different scenarios. I’ve had it stuck in my head since last Friday when I got a sneak peek! Be sure to catch the exclusive premiere of the “Backyard Sessions” video below!

“Would Have Loved Her” is one I was really excited to hear. Back in February, Bandi told me about this one & how special it is to him. The inspiration came from meeting his girlfriend shortly after his grandfather passed away. He said he knew his grandpa would have loved her if he had the chance to meet her, and the idea gave life to an incredible song. It was a last minute addition to the track list, and I’m so glad it happened! Listen, truly listen, to every word of the song. Then, go back and do it again. I highly suggest having a tissue or two handy…

Bandi takes us to church with “Free.” The best way to describe this a “church meets Sam Hunt vibe.” Bandi echos Hunt’s style of speaking lyrics throughout the song and while it’s different than his usual style, it totally works. It’s a “if you love them, set them free” song. He knows his girl is better off free than she is with him. My favorite lyrics from the song, heck the whole EP are, “I always knew she had a set of wings underneath that blue jean jacket.”

“She’d never say she was too good for me, but I’d tell you she was if you asked me. She was made for more than this two lane nowhere John Deere town”

The track I was most excited to hear is “They Make Whiskey.” I’ve heard it several times live & couldn’t wait to hear the studio version. First of all, I’m totally a whiskey girl, so the title alone makes this a clear winner. Besides that fact, the song is incredible from the writing, to Bandi’s vocals, to the production… If I have to choose a favorite, this is it.

“They make little bars on the edge of town, for getting lost, for getting found, and hanging ’round for more than a round or two. And they make 8 ball racks and juke box songs, so you can act like you moved on. Neon signs shine that neon blue. It just hit me, that they make whiskey to get me over you.”

The EP rounds out with fun summer tunes “Leave It To A Song” and “What If We Don’t,” and the one that started it all, “Man Enough Now.” We’ve been big fans of Bandi around here, and couldn’t be more excited to see where this EP takes his career! Congrats, Chris!
