ALBUM REVIEW: Jamie O’Neal “Eternal”

I’ve always loved the traditional country sound of Jamie O’Neal‘s voice. Her new album entitled “Eternal,” is set to be released on April 15th, 2014. It’s been 5 years since we have heard anything new from Jamie, but not only do good things come to those who wait, things get even better than they already are with time!

This album really proves those two statements even more true because it highlights the Grammy-nominated and platinum selling country stars ability to pay homage to some of the great traditional country songs, bringing us back to that era of country music which encompasses the deep roots we have all grown to love. Jamie sings the songs from artists that have really put country on the map, and she does it with such class, respect, and honor to the original artists. Some of the songs you will hear on this album have been recorded by some of the biggest names in country music, Emmylou Harris, Loretta Lynn, George Jones & Tammy Wynette, Larry Gatlin & The Gatlin Brothers, Connie Smith, Patsy Cline, Sammi Smith, Willie Nelson, Juice Newton, Deborah Allen, and singer-songwriter Bruce Cockburn. You will also hear a new and original song written by Jamie and her father, James Murphy. Jamie says, “I wrote this funny song with my Dad. It’s an ode to everyone out there who sleeps next to a snoring moose every night :-)”

Listening to this album will bring you back to the Grand Ole Opry, or if you have never been, it will make you want to go. This is the kind of country music that I have grown up listening to, the kind of country music that I fell in love with at such a young age. It’s pure, raw, and just plain real life. If you don’t know traditional country, this is definitely an album you will want to help you be introduced to it.

Originally scheduled to be released on March 18, “Eternal” will not be available on May 27th.
