ALBUM REVIEW: Jordan DePaul “Forces”

Jordan DePaul, the 25 year-old singer songwriter only a few years new to Nashville, has already taken the city by storm. Throughout his time performing at various prominent venues, and participating in several songwriter rounds, DePaul has been building vast catalog of music that he is anxious to share with the world. His third EP Forces is set to be released on February 4th, and it is a record that is worth way more then just one listen through.

Forces begins with a simple instrumental, something we do not hear often, yet pleasing to the ear. It leaves us curious as to what the rest of the EP will offer, and ensures confidence that we will have a fair taste of that folk, country and indie rock mix that makes up Jordan DePaul’s sound.

Brighter Shade Of Blue” introduces us to his strong voice as it powers in after the somber intro, and we instantly feel for his lyrics.

Me + U“, the current single off Forces is a song of heartache. He floats with perfection from a strong realization that this is how it was meant to be, to a helpless someone wishing there was still a way. This piece has just enough of everything and is not overdone in any area. The well-constructed lyrics paired with just a simple guitar that heightens at the emotional bridge, has us hooked.

“Some things can change, but really what’s the use.
When you can’t dig deep enough to hit the root,
Of why they just don’t fit, how you want them to,
Kinda like me and you.”

Lucky” gives us a little more guitar picking, and upbeat tempo, and “No Good For You” is built around a more vulnerable storyline, knowing and accepting that he is not the one she deserves.

“Love might be blind in your eyes, but baby you need to see,
It ain’t no good for you, to be so good for me”

Ghost of Blue Ridge” sends us an assortment of sentiments, as the music is uplifting, yet the words can be saddening. It has you listening carefully and absorbing every word, giving the piece its own personal meaning.

Jordan DePaul brings a new edge to the genre by tastefully infusing his music with an indie rock, and country and folk flare, yet not leaving out any of the elements that make up a good country song. His lyrics are some of the truest I have ever heard, and you can sense the honesty in his voice, making his music instantly relatable.

Already recognized as a must see live, Jordan DePaul will be bringing his eclectic sound to stages across the US, on The Ghost Of Blue Ridge Tour, where he is known to fill the room, and give the crowd a genuine and memorable experience. Jordan will be kicking off his tour dates with the “Forces” EP release show Feb. 4th at The Basement EastDoors open at 7pm.
