Got The Spotlight: Blackberry Smoke

With a little over a decade in the industry, Blackberry Smoke is a force to be reckoned with. The Atlanta-based quintet, whom met and connected playing different shows at local bars, bring a southern rock addition to today’s country. Although honored to be compared to legends Lynryd Skynyrd, Blackberry Smoke have their own unique sound that sticks with the audience.

“we don’t get radio play so most of our fans come from attending our shows and word of mouth” says Charlie Starr.

And in droves the fans come out; Blackberry smoke has been honored to play some of music’s most famous venues, such as The Ryman Auditorium and Madison Square Garden, and have brought American southern/country rock to Europe thrice over:

“The shows keep growing every year”, adds Starr. “Our success comes from touring and we really appreciate our job.”

In addition to having singles appear in both American video games and films, opening for some of music’s largest acts (including Skynryd), the members of Blackberry Smoke are still as humble and blue collar as they come:

“We can play to a large audience in a famous venue, but wake up the next morning and realize our grass still needs to be mowed. We’re just having fun and playing music that makes us feel good and makes us and the fans happy.”

With the first album since 2012’s “The Whippoorwill” in the infancy stages, fans are treated to the release of the bands second Live CD and DVD Leave A Scar, Live in North Carolina. The album is scheduled to release tomorrow, July 8, fans can pre-order HERE via Amazon and iTunes. The band appreciates their fans patience with releasing new music:

“Our fans have been patient since our releases have been sporadic, but they understand that we would rather produce fewer better quality albums than mass unoriginals,” says Starr. “Fans had literally asked for the live albums and DVD. Because it was filmed live we could not fit in the entire show and all the interviews, but I think it turned out the way we and they hope.”
