Skip Ewing Ties Up Meaning of Life in Acoustic Video of “Knots”

Life is a never-ending journey, and no one knows it better than artist and singer-songwriter Skip Ewing. Eloquently told through a series of metaphors and anecdotes, “Knots” comes alive in the stripped down acoustic video featuring Josh Matheny on dobro and Jenee Fleenor on fiddle. We’ve got the exclusive first look at the acoustic video and spoke with Skip about the song below!

“‘Knots’ illuminates the chance meeting of two kindred spirits who, through a metaphor of tangled fishing line, strengthen and support their journeys through adversity,” Skip shared with us about the song. “The song embraces service, self-efficacy, mental health, positivity, dedication, a reverence for life, and the respect-worthy aspiration to remain faithful to oneself.”

Made complete with an intimate setting and soft lighting, the lyrics, brushed with heartache and wonder, hit even closer to the bone with the acoustic treatment. Written solely by Skip, the song touches on some of the most pressing topics of life in a way that feels casual and therapeutic.

“It’s also about the gravel in all of our shoes, the challenges we face inwardly,” Skip continued. “It’s about women and children, people we know and see everyday—generosity, courage, dedication, and commitment to the most loving path. My prayer is that we’ll look more closely, not look away, judge less harshly or not at all, endeavor to understand, be present, and remember to treat ourselves compassionately. Truly, we’re all just different shades of black and blue.”

A life-long songwriter, Skip has always striven to seek out the meaning of life in all forms of the word. His 2020 album, Wyoming, which American Songwriter called “a mystical masterpiece of an album,” served as the launching point for his own artistry and garnered much acclaim, including a PBS live concert special that can still be caught on broadcast across the nation. Now, on his forthcoming project, Road To California, he takes unique approaches to dissect and understand what living really means. No stranger to success, his introspective writing has led to cuts with Willie Nelson, George Strait, Zac Brown Band, Keith Urban, and many more including number 1 hits with Kenny Chesney’s “You Had Me from Hello” and Collin Raye’s “Love, Me.” Last week, the demo for “I Would If I Could,” co-written alongside Dean Dillon, was featured in Apple Music’s Lost & Found project. With “Knots,” he is priming listeners for the full project due out later this year. Stream/Purchase “Knots” now and watch the acoustic performance above!
